Submitting Samples

Samples submitted for surface analysis should not be handled directly, but rather by using gloves or clean tools. If possible, the samples should be submitted in a clean glass container where the surface of interest is not in contact with packaging material. If this is unavoidable, wrap the sample in lint-free paper (e.g. Kimwipes®) or cleaned aluminum foil. Do not put samples directly into plastic bags or other plastic containers because these items usually have silicone on their inside surface and this can contaminate your samples. The approximate sample size maximum for several techniques is given below. If your sample is larger than these sizes, analysis may be still be possible with minor instrument reconfiguration, so please contact us.
  • XPS – 9 cm x 9 cm x 1.8 cm high
  • Auger – 5 cm x 5 cm x 1.2 cm high
  • SIMS – 2 cm x 2 cm x 1 cm high
